The project
The store, owned by Penny Market S.r.l, is in Saronno, in the province of Varese.
With a total floor area of approximately 1,200 m², it is the owner's first store to obtain BREEAM In-Use certification.
Opened in 2022, the store features high-standard building services and a strong commitment to sustainability: the only energy carrier used is grid electricity, and a photovoltaic array of approximately 92 kW is installed; the lighting is 100% LED; and a rainwater harvesting system supplies irrigation and toilet facilities. The building also has green walls, improving insulation, climatic control and air quality.
The commission involved consultancy to support BREEAM-In-Use certification. This specifically assessed the energy performance of the building and its services, the availability of renewable energy resources, water management and the sustainability of the planting.
